Buddleia is a vigorous, deciduous shrub famous for its ability to attract butterflies, it is commonly called the butterfly bush, and other wildlife to its flowers. Buddleias grow readily and can often be seen colonising areas of waste ground. Buddleia flowers usually take the form of long spikes on the arching stems of the plant and vary in colour from white to pink and purple. Buddleia cope well with poor quality, infertile soil, as is evidenced by their colonisation of waste ground, but prefer not to be waterlogged and require a sunny site. For the gardener, care of a buddleia simple; to promote optimal flowering just prune the plant hard in Spring.
