Acer

Acer, commonly called maple, are grown for their attractive foliage and Autumn leaf colour. This is particularly apparent in the acer palmatum or Japanese maple which has leaves of five or seven lobes which turn an attractive shade of red or orange in Autumn. Acer plants generally are not too tall consequently they can be considered for any garden that has loamy, moisture retentive soil in a site that is sheltered from cold winds.
